Bible Verse of the Week

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve...But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."

Joshua 24:14-15

Reflection

Joshua 24:14–15 is a reminder that faith is a choice we make daily, not something we inherit or stumble into. Joshua speaks these words near the end of his life, calling the people to decide who they will truly serve. It isn’t about perfection or fear. It’s about intention.

What stands out to me most is the call to remove anything that competes with God for our devotion. In today’s world, that doesn’t always look like idols in the traditional sense. Sometimes it looks like placing too much weight on people, relationships, or material things to give us a sense of worth, security, or direction.

This verse resonates with me because I’ve been there. I didn’t always realize that I was idolizing certain people or things over my relationship with God. I focused so heavily on what I lacked that I lost sight of the One who was providing for me all along. What I’ve learned is that every opportunity, every connection, and every blessing I have access to exists because of God first.

Loving God above everything else doesn’t mean you stop caring about people or enjoying the life you’re building. It means you stop asking people or things to fill a space they were never meant to occupy. When God is placed back at the center, the feeling of being lost begins to soften, and everything else finds its proper place.

Question for You:

What might change in your life if you shifted your focus from what feels lacking to the God who has already been present?
